So here we are 97 days into the Million Dollar Savings Club.  Christmas is fast approaching.  Isn’t it nice to have some savings stashed away?  If you’ve been playing along then you’ve probably got $97 to just give-away from your give-away pile.  Why not unload some of that money to help with Christmas gifts?

Most people will spend $791.10 on Christmas gifts this year.  Most of them will use credit cards because they don’t have a savings account.  They’ll be paying for this year’s Christmas next year and the year after that.  Eventually they’ll refinance their home to pay off the credit cards.  They’ll end their lives flat broke.  Don’t be like most people.  Don’t turn to credit cards this holiday season.  Try to spend only what you have cash for.
We started the Million Dollar Savings Club back in August.  Had we started from the first of the year (and if you were willing to make some bigger commitments) then you’d have more than enough money in the bank to cover your Christmas expenses.  But we didn’t.

If Christmas is a little lighter this year, so what?  Be creative.  By saving now, you’ll have a nice Christmas every year because you’re learning to save money.  The best part is you might learn to really enjoy buying gifts because you want to give, rather than doing it because you have to.  There is a difference!

Here’s the important lesson:

When you put money in the bank and build up a savings account you can stick to a budget.  Then your life will get easier.  Without a savings account, things like Christmas come along and wipe you out.  You can’t stick to a budget and your financial life is in disarray.  Then you might have a hard time sleeping at night.  If you have not committed to ever saving before, why not get started right now?  It only takes a dollar per day.  You can certainly commit to that.
