Stock Market: Selling into Strength

Filed under: My Stock Trading Journal — bryan_fleming @ 4:59 pm

wallstreet2.jpgPlaying the stock market is a lot like gambling.  Actually I like it better than gambling.  Maybe it’s because you keep your chips on the table everyday.  Maybe it’s because the stock market is at least set up for you to win.  I don’t know.  It’s just become fun to play.

Yesterday at 2:25 PM I opened my web-browser.  It automatically opens to a personalized Google Home page so I can see all my stocks.  I can’t help but watch the market all day.  It’s pretty cool.

So, at 2:25, I see the market is way up!  Old IVV shot up to $150.  Now I bought 1 single share last week at $146, so why not make a quick $4? Not a lot of money?  Well just ask the new people starting out in the Million Dollar Savings Club.  That’s one day’s worth of savings!

I did just that.  I sold my 1 share of IVV for $150.67.  It felt pretty good.

Today the market crashed hard.  Can you believe IVV fell right back to $145.  I really wanted to buy it, but I’ve noticed that people tend to sell on Friday.  People panic too.  If it falls again tomorrow I’ll buy it back.

Last week I saw IVV go as low as $143.  I bought early at $146.  I’m trying not to make that mistake again.

I’m logging all of my trading activity on this blog so you can watch me loose all my money and have a good laugh.  But hey, I made $10 so far with my $500.00 investment.  How did I get $500.00 to invest?  I started saving $1 per day almost 1 year ago.

Here’s my Trade from Yesterday:

For anyone who’s interested, I use this Free Stock Trading Company.  They even send me letters in the mail confirming my 1 share trades.

I will keep you posted when I make my next move.
